This first edition brings you a blend of whiskies matured in first fill medium-rich Madeira, Muscatel de Setubal, and Douro casks that were toasted and charred before filling.
Whisky maturation and blending are both a science and an art form. Although we can explain most of the first part, the second is where magic and alchemy come together to produce sublime quality.
Following the Venakki tradition, these whiskies are bottled at the right time, not by age or other constraints. They are hand-selected from our Private Heritage Reserve (casks that previously contained fine wine) and blended to perfection.
The Portuguese series is the alchemy of terroir, wood casks, time, and blending skills that come together to create this unparalleled whisky of depth and complexity, while approachable, attracting both seasoned drinkers and newcomers alike.
Nose:
Candied orange, vanilla pods, soft caramel, and toasted oak drift into buttery chocolate cream, dried figs, and roasted hazelnuts. Deep, rich, and utterly sniff-worthy.
Palate:
Velvety vanilla cream and gentle spice up front, followed by waves of stewed fruit, honeyed oak, and warm raisins — all thanks to those gorgeous wine-seasoned casks.
Finish:
Medium-long and warming. Vanilla, muscatel sweetness, a little dry red fruit and toasted oak to round it out. Smooth, juicy, and the kind of finish that dares you to pour again.
The VENAKKI DISTILLERY is The Pioneer of Portuguese Whisky, winner of the Liquid Gold Award by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and ranking consistently between 91 and 96 points.
We are a small privately owned and independent label producing contemporary experimental spirits, and the house behind this exceptional VENAKKI WHISKY. As Independent Distillers we can make contemporary spirits while looking back to a time when things were simply done in the best possible way, the right way.
While based on an uncommon whisky provenance we rely on our terroir and long tradition of making and aging world renounced wines and of being the birthplace of some of the world’s most sought-after casks for ageing and maturing whisky.
The Continental climate with Atlantic influence throughout the year; of warm days and cool nights (daily thermal variations ranging typically from 15º C to 40º C / 60º F to 105º F) drives our Whisky to extract from the cask all the goodness for which we’ve prepared them.
As The Pioneer of Portuguese Whisky, we explore the endless possibilities of our traditional cooperage, our terroir, infused with our passion and commitment to one single standard: excellence.
